Busy, Busy, Busy
As ever it's a hectic day one at the velodrome, with two rounds played in four of the five events. That's four courts on
the go from 10.00, with the last finishing past 23.00.
No upsets to report as the seeds are though to tomorrow's
quarter-finals in all five events.
Mixed Doubles
The first event to finish its two rounds was the mixed doubles,
where the top four seeds came in for the second round. No
worries for any of them as defending champions Clark &
Kellogg eased past the morning winners Stawski and Smith
while Robertson & Wallwork put paid to the hopes of
experienced pair Ponting & Bradbury in straight sets.

Men's Singles
A full 32-draw for the men, with all eight seeds going through
to tomorrow's quarter-finals, with third seed Harry Wright
the only one to drop a set along the way.
Wright looked in a spot of bother after dropping the first game
to national U19 champion Nathan D'Cruz - coached by former
champion Aamir Ghaffar - but held his nerve to edge the second
before taking a decisive early lead in the decider.

Women's Singles
Although the top four seeds all progressed to tomorrow's
quarter-finals, it wasn't an easy run for any of them.
Defending champion and top seed Elizabeth Cann was pushed
hard in the first against Rachel Howard; second seed Jill
Pittard had to come from 13/7 down to take the first against
Lauren Smith; Helen Davies looked to be struggling as she
dropped the first against Nicola Cerfontyne, although the new
England selection recovered well; and Sarah Walker was
grateful for a 29/27 first game win as she dropped the second
before seeing off Caroline Westley.

No upsets to report, apart from a mishap as Ben Stawski fell and
flattened one of the courtside advertising hoardings ... |
